What we share

Three kinds of closeness

Every post starts from the same question: what small thing would make this feel easier tomorrow? Three subjects, because nearly everything people write to us about lands in one of them.

Couples

The small daily repairs that keep a marriage warm — noticing, asking, coming back after the argument. We write about the ten minutes after someone walks through the door, the fight that keeps returning wearing a different coat each time, and how to say the thing you've been carrying for a month without starting a war. Less about grand gestures, more about Tuesday.

Family

Boundaries that hold without cruelty, hard conversations with parents and siblings, and the long work of repair. We write about saying no to people you love, what to do when the story your family tells about you stopped being true years ago, holidays that take more than they give, and staying close to someone whose choices you would never make yourself.

Friendship

Staying close through busy years — who reaches out first, what to say when you've drifted, how to be reachable. We write about friendships that fade without anyone falling out, making new friends in your thirties when nobody hands you a class list, and the small maintenance — a message on a birthday, a call with no agenda — that keeps people in your life.

How we write

No experts, no five-step fixes

We're not therapists and we don't pretend to be. What goes here comes from paying attention — to our own relationships, to what people tell us, and to the counsellors and researchers who have spent careers on this and written it down properly. Where an idea isn't ours, we say so.

So you won't find scripts, and you won't find a habit sold as a cure for a marriage. Some things need a professional, and when that's the honest answer we'd rather give it than hand you a checklist. The rest of the time we try to be specific, because “communicate better” has never once helped anybody at eleven at night.
